nights
3 am comes and goes
i lay awake staring into the dark
no familiar snoring around, except the dog
nerves are mis-firing throughout my body and spasticity is taking over
holding my breath, the house is still
the three are all quite in their beds, no stirring
all cats and 1 dog too, all still, be still
how long do the nights last?
would it be this quiet if i wasn’t awake once again
listening, straining to hear her?
sleepy time tea does not bring slumber
i lay here waiting for 4am to come, then 5
night after night it is the same
will it ever end?
