counting time

when babies are born we count first their days, 6 days old
then after a month or two – we switch to months
“he’s 16 months old” we don’t say he is a year and 4 months – why is that?
we were proud of katie for walking at 10 months and roller blading at 29 months
david joined our family at 19 months and started talking at 23 months and he hasn’t stopped yet
we all have ways to count time as it passes
i do too – at first it was days, then weeks, then months
today, january 18th my grief turns exactly 23 months old
and it’s even a sunday just like the fateful day
when Lisa closed her eyes for the last time
