I truly believe that every child has the right to have two parents. Two loving parents. If they are straight/ lesbian/gay it does not matter. I recently spent 20 days at Providence St. Peter in Olympia after suffering brain seizures at Tolmie State Park. Fortunately, my partner of 29 years was treated with kindness and dignity. Hospital officials respected our powers of attorney (signed 23 years ago in Maine) without question. I have no idea if your experience and President Obama’s memorandum played any part in my care, but I thank you for all you have done to advance the rights of lesbians and gay men.

I am writing an op-ed article for The Olympian for October 19 on this topic.

Thank you for your courage and resolution in sharing your family’s story. PLease accept my continuing condolences for your loss of Lisa. Thank you for speaking at OB-2 in Olympia yesterday. While I am dismayed at the small number in the audience, please know that I, like many others I’m sure, will continue to spread your story. Hopefully we can be continuing little ripples that go out from every public appearance you make.
Congratulation to you and Lisa on the success of your family! You and Lisa obviously are two people who have made the most of the lives you were given, and you have guided your children to do the same. For that you have my utmost respect and gratitude.
I wish you and your family all the best as the journey unfolds. As the saying goes – the proof is in the pudding. The impact you and Lisa are making in the world far overrides the meanness and small minded forces of intolerances.
